Shenzhen Beyond skyscraper is an editorial project I have been working on for about a year.
While Shenzhen is mostly famous for its ultra modern skyline, tech startups and electric vehicles, very few people know about its history and the lesser known areas of the city.
Shenzhen is a fascinating city, sitting at the border between the Cantonese and the Hakka cultural spheres, in Southern China. The West of the city is predominantly Cantonese, while the East is mainly Hakka, both with their own distinct architectural styles.
This book explores the duality of these ancient districts and takes the reader to these lesser known areas, leaving behind the easily visible modernity. It explains through photos, texts and drawings the history and culture of the Cantonese, the Hakka and their architecture.

Below a few selected photos from the project - the book includes them and many more.
